What it is
The heritage-listed market hall was built at the end of the 19th century, when Fremantle was booming as the port of the gold rush colony. After decades of other uses it reopened as a market in 1975 and is now one of the town's best-known meeting places, with a produce hall and many smaller stalls selling crafts, clothing and souvenirs.
The market sits at the start of South Terrace, Fremantle's 'cappuccino strip' of cafés, close to the prison and the town centre.
Getting there by bus
The South Tce Fremantle Markets stops are right outside, served by routes 511, 512, 513, 520, 530, 531, 532, 548, 549 and 999 to and from Fremantle station.
From Fremantle station, at the end of the Fremantle line from Perth, the market is also an easy ten-minute walk through the town centre via Market Street.
