What it is
Cottesloe has been a popular bathing spot since the early 20th century and is known for its calm swimming in the morning and for watching the sun set over the ocean. A small groyne and reef offer snorkelling on calm days, and the beach is patrolled by surf lifesavers in summer.
Every autumn the beach hosts Sculpture by the Sea, an outdoor exhibition of large artworks along the sand and the headland.
Getting there by bus
Route 102 runs along Marine Parade and stops right at the beach at Marine Pde After Forrest St and Before Forrest St, with further stops along the beachfront.
Cottesloe station on the Fremantle line is about 1.5 km inland; from there it is a walk of around 20 minutes down Forrest Street, or a short ride on route 102, which also stops on Broome Street.
