What it is
For decades the clock tower was the tallest point of the city centre. The neoclassical building houses the council chambers and a circular main auditorium used for concerts and civic events. After a major restoration it reopened in 2013, and the Museum of Brisbane presents exhibitions on the city's history and culture.
From the museum, short guided tours climb the clock tower to the viewing platform behind the clock faces. King George Square in front of the hall is used for events and markets.
Getting there by bus
King George Square busway station lies directly beneath the square and is served by Brisbane Metro routes M1 and M2 as well as other routes such as 61, 222, 333 and 444. Adelaide Street stops beside City Hall are used by many more routes, including 40, 60, 195, 196 and 199.
Central station, with trains to the airport and all suburban lines, is about five minutes' walk away along Ann Street.
