What it is
The parkland covers some 16 hectares between Roma Street station and Wickham Terrace and is counted among the largest subtropical gardens in any city centre. Paths lead from the central lake and the Spectacle Garden, with its seasonal displays, through a rainforest gully with tree ferns to lawns and lookouts over the city.
It includes the older Albert Park on the slope below Wickham Terrace and is popular for picnics, with barbecues, playgrounds and shaded seating spread through the grounds.
Getting there by bus
Roma Street station, Brisbane's main hub for suburban, intercity and long-distance trains, is at the southern entrance to the parkland. On the upper side, Wickham Terrace stops near Bradley St and at Albert Park are served by routes 30, 372, 373, 433 and 445.
From King George Square and Queen Street Mall the walk takes about ten minutes.
