What it is
The cathedral was designed by the English architect John Loughborough Pearson and built in stages from local stone. The first section was consecrated in 1910, and the west end and towers were finished in the last phase of construction in the 2000s. It is one of the few cathedrals in the world with a stone-vaulted ceiling throughout, and the interior is known for its carved stonework and stained glass.
The cathedral precinct also includes the older Deanery, where the separation of Queensland from New South Wales was proclaimed in 1859.
