What it is
Mount Coot-tha rises to about 287 metres and is part of a large forest reserve laced with walking and mountain-bike trails. The summit lookout has a viewing platform, a café and restaurant, and it is a popular place to watch the sunset and the city lights. The tall television towers on the ridge nearby are a landmark visible from much of Brisbane.
At the foot of the mountain, the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mount Coot-tha and the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium can be combined with a visit.
Getting there by bus
Route 471 climbs Sir Samuel Griffith Drive to the stop Sir Samuel Griffith Dr at Mount Coot-tha, right at the summit lookout. The same route also stops at the Botanic Gardens at the foot of the mountain, so both can be visited on one trip.
Route 471 runs less often than city routes, so it is worth checking the timetable for the return trip in advance.
