What it is
Land on Gardens Point was first used for growing food in the convict era, and in 1855 it was set aside as a botanic garden, the oldest public garden in Queensland. Many of the large figs, bunya pines and palms date from the nineteenth century. The Mangrove Boardwalk follows the riverbank, and the riverside path continues around the point.
The gardens border Queensland University of Technology and Parliament House, and are a favourite spot for picnics and lunch breaks for people working in the city.
Getting there by bus
Alice Street runs along the city side of the gardens. Alice Street Stop 100 at Albert St and Stop 102 at George St are served by many routes, among them 109, 131, 141, 142, 201 and 206, and route 40 stops at Alice St Stop 99. On the river, QUT Gardens Point ferry terminal is at the tip of the point.
The Goodwill Bridge links the gardens on foot with South Bank across the river.
