What it is
The cliffs are made of Brisbane tuff, a volcanic stone that was quarried here and used in buildings around the city. Today the top of the cliffs is a grassed park with picnic areas, barbecues and lookouts, while the rock faces are used for rock climbing and abseiling. At night the cliffs are floodlit.
A riverside boardwalk runs at the foot of the cliffs, linking Kangaroo Point with South Bank to the south and with the Story Bridge to the north, and a set of stairs connects the lower path with the clifftop.
Getting there by bus
Routes 26 and 234 run along Main Street on the clifftop side; the stops at Sinclair Street, River Terrace and Pearson St are about 200–250 metres from the park. Many more routes stop on Shafston Avenue, about ten minutes' walk away.
On foot, the riverside path from South Bank reaches the base of the cliffs in around fifteen minutes.
