What it is
Bondi is home to one of the world's oldest surf lifesaving clubs, founded in 1907, and its beach is patrolled between flags that mark the safest area to swim. The Bondi Pavilion, a 1920s building on the promenade, is a community and cultural centre, and Campbell Parade behind the beach is lined with cafés and shops.
At the southern end, the Bondi Icebergs ocean pool sits right at the water's edge, and the clifftop Bondi to Coogee coastal walk starts nearby. The northern end, near the rocks, has a grassy park and barbecue areas.
Getting there by bus
Buses stop right behind the sand at Bondi Beach, Campbell Pde, Stands A and C. Route 333 runs to the city and Circular Quay via Bondi Junction, route 380 links Bondi Junction with Watsons Bay along the beach, and route 362 connects the beach with Coogee and Rose Bay.
Bondi Junction Station, on the T4 line, is the nearest train station; routes 333 and 380 run between the station and the beach.
