What it is
The zoo is home to thousands of animals, from koalas, kangaroos, platypuses and echidnas to giraffes, elephants, chimpanzees and seals. Walk-through areas such as the Australian bush section bring visitors close to native wildlife, and the grounds terrace down the slope towards the harbour.
The Sky Safari cable car runs from the lower entrance near the wharf up to the top of the zoo, and the giraffe enclosure is known for its view of the Opera House and the city. The zoo also runs conservation and breeding programmes for threatened Australian species.

Route 228 to Clifton Gardens stops on Prince Albert St opp Taronga Zoo, on the northern side of the grounds.
