What it is
Once a busy goods yard and wharf area, Darling Harbour was transformed in the 1980s into a pedestrian precinct. Around the water are SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium and WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo on the eastern shore, the Australian National Maritime Museum with its historic vessels on the western side, and the International Convention Centre at the southern end.
The Chinese Garden of Friendship, a walled garden with pavilions and ponds, lies next to Tumbalong Park, and Pyrmont Bridge, a swing bridge from 1902, carries pedestrians across the bay towards the city.
Getting there by bus
Light rail line L1 stops at Convention Centre and Pyrmont Bay on the western side of the precinct, and ferry route F4 calls at Pyrmont Bay Wharf. Buses 378 and 389 stop on Murray Street opposite Pyrmont Bay Light Rail.
From the city side, Town Hall Station is about ten minutes' walk away, across Cockle Bay via the walkways from Druitt and Market Streets.
