What it is
The cathedral dates from the early thirteenth century and was heavily restored by the Guinness family in the 1860s. Inside are Swift's grave and epitaph, the medieval chapter house door with its “chancing your arm” hole, and memorials to Irish regiments. The choir sings at most services.
St Patrick's Park beside it, with the Literary Parade, is a pleasant place to sit and the best viewpoint for photographing the building.
Getting there by bus
Buses along Patrick Street stop directly outside (St Patrick's Cathedral stop). From the city centre it is about a 15-minute walk from Trinity College via Dame Street and Christ Church.
The cathedral often closes to visitors during services; check the timings before you go.
