What it is
The Palm House, a glasshouse imported from Germany and opened in 1877, is one of the garden's best-known buildings. The Bicentennial Conservatory, a large curved glasshouse from 1989, holds a tropical rainforest, and the Museum of Economic Botany shows plant-based products in its original 19th-century display hall.
The garden adjoins the Botanic Park and the National Wine Centre, and the Adelaide Zoo lies a short walk away along the River Torrens.
Getting there by bus
The Botanic Gardens tram stop at the eastern end of North Terrace is the terminus of the city tram line, a short walk from the main gate. Many buses, including routes 106, 174, 176, 178 and H30, stop on Botanic Road and North Terrace near the garden.
Route 281 stops on Hackney Road beside the Bicentennial Conservatory on the eastern side of the garden.
