What it is
The museum occupies 19th-century bond stores on Lipson Street in Port Adelaide's heritage precinct. Its galleries cover immigrant voyages, coastal trade, ketches and the people of the port, and the red-and-white Port Adelaide Lighthouse on the nearby wharf, which once stood at the mouth of the Port River, belongs to it as well.
The surrounding streets of Port Adelaide have many preserved warehouses, hotels and public buildings from the port's heyday, and dolphins are often seen in the Port River.
