What it is
Construction began in 1869 and continued in stages for decades; the twin western towers were completed in the early 20th century. The design draws on French and English Gothic, with a large rose window on the west front, and the interior has a richly carved reredos behind the altar.
The view of the cathedral rising behind the Adelaide Oval is one of the best-known images of the city.
Getting there by bus
Stop 2 King William Rd in front of the cathedral is served by many routes heading north from the city, including 222, 224, 228, 230, 232 and 251.
From the city centre it is also a pleasant walk of about fifteen minutes north along King William Street and across the Adelaide Bridge over the Torrens, passing the Adelaide Oval.
