What it is
Founded in 1856, the museum holds one of the world's most significant collections relating to Aboriginal Australian cultures, shown in the Australian Aboriginal Cultures Gallery. Other galleries cover Australian mammals and birds, Pacific cultures, ancient Egypt, minerals and meteorites, and fossils including the Ediacaran fauna, some of the oldest known complex life, found in South Australia's Flinders Ranges.
The entrance is set back from North Terrace between the State Library and the Art Gallery.
