What it is
The gallery occupies a classical building from 1900 on the city's cultural boulevard, between the South Australian Museum and the University of Adelaide. Besides Australian painting from colonial times to the present, it shows European old masters, Asian art and decorative arts, and it hosts the Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art.
North Terrace links the gallery with the State Library, the museum and the Botanic Garden, all within a few minutes' walk.
Getting there by bus
The Art Gallery tram stop on North Terrace is right outside, on the city tram line between the Botanic Gardens and the Entertainment Centre. Buses along North Terrace, including routes 170, 174, 176, 178 and 281, stop at Stop G1 North Tce (north side) and Stop T1 North Tce (south side) in front of the gallery.
Adelaide Railway Station, the hub for suburban trains, is about ten minutes' walk west along North Terrace.
